Featured New Artist: Aaron Ansarov
Aaron is in Poland at the moment, but can usually be found in the Miami, Florida area. Until recently Aaron has been in the United States Navy making it his life for the last 14 years. He explains his career in the Navy. “I joined the Navy after high school figuring I would fulfill a family tradition for a few years and then go to college. My first 4 years were spent as a lab rat in a photo lab on a ship. Then toward the end of my first tour I was offered a very special program for advanced photojournalism at Syracuse University. Taking all graduate courses in one year basically gave me all the ‘meat and potatoes’ of a 4 year degree. Then the last 5 years as combat photographer, that was where I grew in my confidence, lost all fear and where I feel I became a true professional.”
Aaron attributes his natural creative talents to his mother, also an artist. After discovering photography at 13, he’s never looked back. “I am constantly fascinated by the ability a camera has in capturing a split second in time we would never have really appreciated even by being there. These “Defining Moments,” as Henri Cartier-Bresson puts it, really impact me and make me want more. No matter what advances we make in technology, none of that matters when you have an incredible frozen moment in time that can be seen and shared with all. It is all about the photographer and his/her impact on a single point in time and life. It is very important to me.”
Subjects for Aaron range from boot camp recruits to leaches in his backyard, either way he gets right into it. As he puts it “I always try to become part of the group I am photographing for many reasons, one of them because I can only speak with less outside bias if I was with them than as a visual tourist. I enjoy getting in the ‘middle of it’ with people. A side affect of this is making some incredible friends as well as being able to capture images that no one has seen. My curiosity is also not limited to humans, and my latest project called My Backyard emphasizes this. My goal is to photograph every living thing easily found in our backyards that we simply overlook, swat away or stomp on. My curiosity has led me to find some incredible beautiful discoveries in color, details and form. I think in a nutshell I would consider myself a photographer of Life.”
Aaron just recently signed with Aurora Photos and now has some interesting images from his “My Backyard” project.
